Winter at the Horse Farm

Deep winter in Lapland transforms everyday life.
Snow covers the forests, daylight becomes short and the pace of life naturally slows down. On a horse farm, winter shapes everything — from how horses are cared for to how people move through the landscape.
The Life with Finnhorses – Winter Edition retreat invites guests to step into this rhythm for a few days.
Instead of observing farm life from the outside, guests become part of it. Mornings begin slowly with breakfast and quiet stable visits. Horses are brushed, fed and prepared for the day, just as they would be in everyday farm routines.
One day includes a peaceful trail ride through snowy forests. Another day offers the experience of travelling through winter landscapes in a traditional horse-drawn sleigh, wrapped in warm blankets.
Guests also take part in preparing simple Finnish winter meals together. Bread baking and traditional dishes become shared experiences around the kitchen table.
Evenings often end in the Finnish sauna — an essential part of winter life — followed by long dinners and quiet conversation.
Between activities there is always time for rest. Guests can walk in the forest, sit by the fire or simply enjoy the stillness of the Arctic countryside.
This retreat is not designed to fill every hour.
It is designed to show what life with Finnhorses in winter really feels like.

The Holiday of Your Dreams Awaits

The Ranch & Our Way of Working

About us
We are a small working ranch outside Rovaniemi, where we live and work with Finnhorses throughout the year. Our riding takes place on forest trails and open terrain shaped by the northern seasons, using Finland’s native horse breed known for its strength, steady temperament, and long history.
We guide our rides in small groups and match each horse carefully to the rider’s experience. Alongside riding, we prepare meals at Restaurant Loimu in a wood-fired oven and are opening farmhouse-style accommodation in summer 2026 for guests who want to stay longer in a quiet rural setting.
Responsibility
At Ranch Kuulas, responsibility is part of everyday life. We care for our horses, nature and surroundings with respect, following sustainable practices and traditional ways of working. Our goal is to create experiences that feel meaningful while preserving the environment for the future.
Our Horses
Our horses are at the heart of Ranch Kuulas. From Finnish Finnhorses to Arctic horses, each one is carefully trained and well cared for. Known for their calm temperament and strength, they make every riding experience safe, steady and deeply connected to nature.
