Horse Riding Over the Hills (Advanced Riders)

The experience begins at the ranch stables where you meet your guide and the horses.
Each rider is paired with a suitable horse from our herd of Finnhorses. Known for their strength, endurance and calm temperament, Finnhorses are excellent partners for exploring Lapland’s varied terrain and longer trail rides.
Before departure, the guide provides a short safety briefing and introduction to the horses. Helmets are provided and the guide ensures everyone feels comfortable and confident before setting out.
Once on the trail, the group rides through quiet forest paths and gradually climbs towards the surrounding hills. The route takes riders deeper into Lapland’s nature, where the landscape opens into wide views over forests, lakes and distant fells.
During the ride, we stop for a short break along the trail. Riders can stretch their legs, enjoy the scenery and have a small snack while the horses rest before continuing the journey.
The ride continues across hilltops and scenic viewpoints, offering moments to pause and take in the peaceful atmosphere of the northern wilderness. Wildlife such as birds or reindeer may occasionally be spotted along the trail.
After approximately three hours of riding, the group returns to the ranch where the horses are unsaddled and released back to their paddocks.
This longer trail ride is designed for confident riders who want to experience Lapland’s landscapes in a deeper and more adventurous way, while still enjoying the calm rhythm of travelling through nature on horseback.

The Holiday of Your Dreams Awaits

The Ranch & Our Way of Working

About us
We are a small working ranch outside Rovaniemi, where we live and work with Finnhorses throughout the year. Our riding takes place on forest trails and open terrain shaped by the northern seasons, using Finland’s native horse breed known for its strength, steady temperament, and long history.
We guide our rides in small groups and match each horse carefully to the rider’s experience. Alongside riding, we prepare meals at Restaurant Loimu in a wood-fired oven and are opening farmhouse-style accommodation in summer 2026 for guests who want to stay longer in a quiet rural setting.
Responsibility
At Ranch Kuulas, responsibility is part of everyday life. We care for our horses, nature and surroundings with respect, following sustainable practices and traditional ways of working. Our goal is to create experiences that feel meaningful while preserving the environment for the future.
Our Horses
Our horses are at the heart of Ranch Kuulas. From Finnish Finnhorses to Arctic horses, each one is carefully trained and well cared for. Known for their calm temperament and strength, they make every riding experience safe, steady and deeply connected to nature.
